Upskilling Our Distillers

Under the Distillery Door Program, upskilling our distillers has been identified as one of the core focuses for the Program.

Funding is now available for Victorian distillers to upskill to improve the knowledge and experience of the people that make this industry work. The training is broad and flexible to meet the differing needs of an industry that has large, medium, small and micro businesses, all of which have their place in a growing industry.

What Is Available

Funding of up to $2,000 per distillery (located in Victoria) is available to cover the cost of Eligible Training. No co-contribution is required.

The Funding opens on 19 March 2024 and closes on 31 December 2024.

Funding can be used for:

  • a single Eligible Education course or used progressively over multiple Eligible Education courses;

  • the Eligible Education costs of more than one distillery employee;

  • the Eligible Education costs of non-employed distillery owners.

The funding is administered jointly by Spirits Victoria and Australian Distillers Association. All Victorian distilleries are eligible to claim this funding - you do not need to be a member of either association to access the funding.

What Is Eligible Education

Education Courses that are eligible for funding are:

  • Any course undertaken by a staff member of a distillery that is relevant to commercial distillery activities.

  • Any course that is on the Australian Distillers Association training page subject to the exclusions below.

  • Any course provided by Spirits Victoria Association specifically for the purposes of improving distillery operations.

Courses that are not eligible for the funding are:

  • The Certificate IV in Artisan Fermented Products (Distilling)

What Supporting Documentation is Required?

For courses run by either Spirits Victoria or Australian Distillers Association, you simply make a request to the Industry Development Officer that your course costs be covered by the Education Rebate and you will be billed for the difference (if any).

For courses run by any other organisation or educational institution, you must:

  • Request the approval of the Victorian Industry Development Officer prior to commencement of the Eligible Education

  • provide a copy of the course costs (such as an invoice)

  • provide proof of payment

  • provide written instructions for your distillery bank account, which must be verified prior to payment

Australian Distillers Association will then verify your eligibility, monitor the balance of your available funding, issue a recipient created tax invoice and arrange for payment to you.

The Distillery Door Program is supported by the Victorian Government.
